RevForge

An Android app that synthesises your car's engine sound live from its OBD-II data.

RevForge dashboard on OBD-II while driving: 5,548 rpm with shift lights, 88 km/h in third gear, 92% throttle, 331 PS and 420 Nm, boost, spool and exhaust tiles, the power curve, the round minimap, a g-meter and measured coolant, oil, intake, catalyst, volts, inlet and fuel gauges.
The dashboard on OBD-II, on the road: revs with shift lights, speed and gear, the power curve, the minimap and the gauges the car reports.

RevForge turns the revs and load it reads over a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter into an engine sound on the phone, synthesised as the car drives rather than played from recordings. A dashboard the driver arranges follows the car, a minimap draws the real streets around it, and trips can be recorded. Started on 18 August 2026, on Google Play since 8 September.

Main functions

  • Live engine sound: a C++ DSP core on Oboe renders the voice from rpm, throttle and load as they arrive over OBD-II, with no samples involved.
  • 139 engine configurations across 35 layouts, from a single cylinder to a W16, plus rotary, electric motor and gas turbine models.
  • A dashboard of 35 modules and 18 themes the driver arranges: tach with shift lights, boost, the power curve, and gauges read from the car.
  • A minimap that draws the real streets around the car from OpenStreetMap and places it on the road.
  • Trip recording, switched on by the driver and running in the foreground, with shareable result cards; trips and laps are marked beta in the app.
  • A tuning tree and a 4-band EQ on each of the 19 voices; Authentic keeps the car's real configuration, Custom lets you build your own.
  • Keeps playing in the background as a foreground service with media controls.
  • Privacy by construction: no account, no ads, no analytics. The one network request is the optional street fetch, which names a map square; everything else stays on the phone until you share a result card.
  • 2026-09-08on Google Play since
  • 139engine configurations, 35 layouts
  • 1,920JVM tests and 21 DSP harnesses, run 2026-09-19

Landscape dashboard: the engine-speed dial at 2,483 rpm, the power and torque curve with the live dot at 51 PS and 143 Nm, and the round minimap drawing real streets with a north mark.
Landscape layout: engine speed, the power and torque curve, the street minimap.
Drive tab in Simulator mode with the control strip open: 3,206 rpm against a 7,200 rpm redline, speed, boost, spool and exhaust tiles, 45% throttle, 140 PS and 307 Nm, mode SIM grip, manual gearbox, clutch, brake and throttle pedals, the H-pattern lever in neutral and the handbrake.
Simulator mode: pedals, an H-gate and a handbrake on screen, no adapter needed.
Garage tab: a search box, the red Build engine button, a notice that every sound is a synthetic simulation of a generic engine configuration, not a recording and not tied to any manufacturer, then the list: three free engines, among them American 2.5 turbo I5 and German 6.2 V8, followed by Pro-tagged configurations.
The garage: 139 generic engine configurations and an engine builder.
Tune tab, Main section: cards for Levels, Engine (V8 crossplane, 6.2 L), Cold rev protection, Rev response (idle to redline 0.71 s), Presets and stage, Boost 1.01 bar and Pops and bangs style V8 Thunder; the Pro cards are visible but dimmed, with a save button.
The tuning tree: idle, rev response, boost and pops on their own cards.
